Improvement in any endeavour requires good guidance
Even the best of the best have personal coaches; athletes and executives use them to keep them on course, helping them to practice properly, providing guidance, clarity and support. In my case, I also provide short-cuts and bottom-lines accumulated over the course of my career, a result of working with so many people on such deep levels.
Having specialized in Emotional Intelligence development professionally for over twenty years (personally, a lot longer) my strengths lie in working with people who are in search of the 1% factor that will take them from being really good at what they do to being great at who they are.
“Communication is the real work of leadership.”
~Nitin Nohria, Dean of Harvard Business School
- Are you struggling with feedback from a job performance review?
- Do you feel stymied as to how to move up in your organization?
- Do you often doubt yourself when called upon to speak up at the office?
- Has your spouse or boss expressed frustration when talking to you?
- Do some of your direct reports give you nothing but headaches?
- Have you been called arrogant or rigid or dictatorial by others?
- On the flip side, have you been told you need to speak up more, express your feelings, stop sitting on the sidelines, or develop a spine?
- Do you feel confident in most areas of your life and yet totally confused in conversations sometimes, especially with authority figures or members of the opposite sex?
- Do you struggle with perfectionism and the need to control everything around you?
These are examples of why some people seek help in the form of personal coaching.
If you answered YES to any of these questions, believe me, it comes down to communication issues–yours–and those issues stem from self-defeating beliefs.
My role as your coach is to help you move past current challenge areas and become a clearer, more confident communicator.
Confidence comes from within
The Latin root of the word itself, con fides, means with faith. I can help you develop faith in yourself in the areas of your life that you currently find difficult. This usually means with someone of some importance in your life: your boss, spouse, parent, child, friend, co-worker, or employee.
The common link in all areas of your life is the requirement for effective communication.
And a lot of people do not feel confident having difficult conversations.
All of us have certain areas in which we feel confident and others where we feel less so. In some places, with some people, we have no problem saying what we mean or feel. With others we freeze up or become defensive too quickly, too easily. Or we re-play conversations in our heads, wondering if we said the right thing, worrying that we didn’t. I help you understand why this is occurring, not just what to do about it.
“Communication–the human connection–is the key to personal and career success.” ~ Paul J. Meyer
Let me paint an analogy: your life is like a garden. If you want it to be healthy and vibrant you need to weed it every so often. It can appear, sometimes, as though the weed over in one corner is unrelated to the one you pulled up last weekend that grew four feet away. But sometimes those individual weeds spring from a common underground vine; pull up the vine and you can eliminate a lot of weeds all at once—and save yourself a lot of work in the future.
The lack of confidence you may experience in a certain corner of your “garden,” is often connected to a single vine, a single harmful belief that causes conversations to veer places you never intended them to go. I help you dig up that belief “vine,” connect the weeds that sprang from it, thereby enabling you to see the big picture. That bigger picture is clarifying, strengthening, and freeing.
Confusion sucks your energy. Clarity and understanding empowers you to tackle the shackles that have held you back.
After TWO sessions:
“Thanks so much. Today’s session was amazing. I feel really energized to tackle the coming week!” Megan Lavender, Pres. Ink Advertising, California
How it works
While there is some value in an each-week-at-the-same-time format, you get to decide your own pace.
Many clients find an on-going relationship highly beneficial and I offer an annual option. Leaders, executives or managers on a promotion track are more attracted to the 24/7 access of that relationship. Some people want to keep going at a more relaxed pace on an as-needed basis. One of my long-term clients simply e-mails asking “do you have time today?” when her need is more immediate. I am generally flexible enough to accommodate requests. As well, there is also a pay-as-you-go option.
“The problem with communication is the illusion that it has occurred.”~George Bernard Shaw
Ever had a good intention go down the tube? Ever intended to apologize and ended up making it worse?
To be a more confident communicator, you must be a clearer person.
After THREE sessions:
“The best thing that has come of this last week is that I don’t have that confused feeling anymore. It has been incredible to experience joy in the simplest things again. I have denied myself so much. I am stronger, more confident and genuinely happier than I have been in a long time… You‘re the best! Thanks for working with me Cindy.” Carla LaValle, Toronto
After an initial discovery conversation we can decide how you would like to proceed. Individual sessions are generally an hour in length, however, some situations demand more time.
There are several ways we can work together:
- pay as you go, session-to-session as needed/desired
- a package of 6 sessions, generally one session per week
- one full day followed by 6 sessions – aJump-start approach
- 6 month program, focused approach to behavioral change 20 sessions
- annual program, 24/7 access with 3 sessions/mo
After FOUR sessions:
“I have decided that you are an integral part of my success. I am getting an incredible amount of perspective from all our conversations, both on the personal front and on the business front.
I really value your wisdom, your insight and your thoughtful approach. I look forward to our continued exploration together.” Fatima Bregman, Realtor, Toronto
